Top 5 Email Marketing Softwares For CPG Brands

Email marketing is a highly useful tool for business owners looking to increase conversions and choosing the right email marketing software for your business can make or break your ability to get the most out of your customer list.

A great email marketing software offers tools for growing your audience, automation and segmenting your lists, and of course the ability to send and track your emails. Not all softwares are created equal though; there are a ton of varying types that offer a range of tools and abilities. With so many to chose from, it can be tough to figure out where to start. Luckily, we’ve helped our clients build their email marketing across a wide spectrum of email marketing programs.

Whether you’re just looking to amp up your email template building and communication or looking for more control over your automation – we’ll explore our top five recommended email marketing programs.

Let’s dive right in!

1. Klaviyo

Our #1 pick has to be Klaviyo! It is extremely effective marketing software because of its ability to work seamlessly with one of the biggest site platforms on the market – Shopify. If you’re an e-commerce brand looking for central hub focused on email marketing with SMS capabilities where you can really dig into your customer data, then Klaviyo is the program for you.

Another aspect we love is their email builder. After being recently updated to include even more customizable features, it just blows every other email builder out of the water. It also features dynamic templates that are easily customizable so that you can create hyper-targeted information in your emails specific to the subscriber.

2. ActiveCampaign

ActiveCampaign is a software that excels in automation building. Whereas Klaviyo does a good job with automation and flows, this software takes it to the next level by allowing you to have several automations and steps that interwork seamlessly.

If you’re looking to build layered customer journeys and have more hands-on control over every task that occurs in your contact’s journey – ActiveCampaign is perfect. It does lack on the e-commerce side, however. So, if you want to see better segmentation and data on your customers order data, this may not be your number one choice.

ActiveCampaign is one we highly recommended if to our clients with digital products or selling courses, as it will be most compatible in building out marketing automation and customer journeys for this type of business model.

3. Drip

We like to think of Drip as “ActiveCampaign Lite” because of its similarly great automation capability and ease of use. Unlike ActiveCampaign, Drip is lacking in its ability to build email templates and tag automation triggers.

If you are just getting started though, their pre-built automations that you can plug and go with are great!

However, if you are someone who finds ActiveCampaign to be a bit complicated or confusing, Drip is a great introductory to automation-focused software because of how much easier it is to operate.

4. Convertkit

ConvertKit is really great for digital product and course builders who operate via applications like ClickFunnles. This software is fantastic for building automation and drip sequences with communication that feels more personal.

Unfortunately, it’s not the best choice for email design necessarily, but if you are looking for a more one-on-one or inbox-to-inbox style of contact communication, dripped through a sequence with upselling opportunities, ConvertKit is a great option.

You can do some tagging and organization using automation triggers without the confusion ActiveCampaign can bring for brands just getting started in their email communications.

5. MailChimp

Finally, we have the popular MailChimp taking our last spot.

It is a quick-style email builder that offers limited design capability and is geared toward getting communications out there quickly. It has the core basics if you’re looking for ways to build out customer journeys and automation but for detailed flow building – Klaviyo still has them beat by a long shot.

MailChimp is more so a jumping-off point for getting things going with your email list. It’s recommended for those who may just be getting started in e-commerce and don’t need all of the capabilities Klaviyo has to offer just yet.

We have many clients in the e-commerce base who use Mailchimp but we always end up recommending upgrading to Klaviyo as their business grows, in order to get the most out of their customer list.
